Living an organised life in the clouds, part 5: References and Ticklers

This blog has been split in three and all content moved to the new blogs – Qua Locus LifeQua Locus Tech and Qua Locus Puzzle – comments are disabled here.

There are two big parts to organising my life: using my time well, and not losing key information that I need to know. So far I’ve described how I organise my time using Fixed Blocks, Anytime Tasks and Projects. In this post I’m going to try and sum up the laundry list of techniques I have for tracking of all the info in my life. I’ll also mention what I do to capture inspiration and track my money (not the same thing) so apologies in advance for the length of this post!

Me: A manifesto

This blog has been split in three and all content moved to the new blogs – Qua Locus LifeQua Locus Tech and Qua Locus Puzzle – comments are disabled here.

Many many years ago, I sat down and thought about what my values were and how I should live my life. That is the historic context to this post. And it is historic, because it was a long time ago, and they were useful, but not in the most difficult or complex situations, so soon I did not consciously use them at all. But now it feels like its time to refresh them, recommit publicly and make myself accountable. That’s this post.

Living an organised life in the cloud, part 4: Projects

This blog has been split in three and all content moved to the new blogs – Qua Locus LifeQua Locus Tech and Qua Locus Puzzle – comments are disabled here.

This is part 4 of a series of posts which describe the system I use to completely organise my life and everything in it. Part 1 was an introduction, part 2 described Fixed Blocks (FB’s) and part 3 described Anytime Tasks (AT’s). In this part I describe Projects, the last piece of the system I use to organise my time.

Living an organised life in the cloud, part 3: Anytime Tasks

This blog has been split in three and all content moved to the new blogs – Qua Locus LifeQua Locus Tech and Qua Locus Puzzle – comments are disabled here.

This is part 3 of a series of posts, describing how I organise my life and everything in it. Rather than an ad hoc scattering of random ideas hodge-podged together, I had time recently to engineer a system that really works. My life is now much less stressful, much more productive, and much more fun! This makes me a very happy man, and in this post I describe how I organise the Anytime Tasks component of my life. Living an organised life in the cloud, part 1: Huh?

This blog has been split in three and all content moved to the new blogs – Qua Locus LifeQua Locus Tech and Qua Locus Puzzle – comments are disabled here.

From the outside, my life looks pretty well organised. I don’t have any problems juggling multiple personal and work-related projects, I can always find time in my calendar to see friends and I never run out of milk. From the inside though…

Finding peace and quiet in a noisy world

This blog has been split in three and all content moved to the new blogs – Qua Locus LifeQua Locus Tech and Qua Locus Puzzle – comments are disabled here.

I hate background noise. Maybe I’m just easily distracted, but almost any noise around me while I’m working will cut my productivity to zero – people talking, footsteps, doors opening and closing, traffic on the street outside. Even birds. Listening to music is no help either. Headbanging along to Metallica or Bieber or whatever I find on Spotify certainly feels good, but it doesn’t actually make me productive… and so I need a better solution! What distracts you at work? How do you deal with it? What works for you and what doesn’t?
